It is essential for every urgent care center to recognize their obligations regarding the treatment of minors, professional liability notifications, and state and local reporting requirements regarding abuse and communicable diseases. Minors, Laws, Etc. Part II will cover incident reporting regarding both patient and employee issues. This course will guide you in designing and implementing the necessary policies and protocols surrounding these requirements. Define an "incident" as encountered in the healthcare environment.
Articulate the different types of patient and employee incidents that should be documented.
Identify requlatory requirements for reporting patient and employee incidents.
Develop incident reporting mechanisms appropriate to urgent care centers.
Barbara Glickman-Williams, RN, began her career in emergency and prehospital nursing at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center in Arizona. During her twenty plus years there she functioned as the Prehospital Manager and Assistant ED Manager, as well as starting up an Occupational Health Services Clinic. Barbara served on the AzDHS Bureau of Emergency Services Education Board and was active in promoting legislative changes to enhance the education of paramedics and EMTs in Arizona. As the Education Committee Chair of the National Native American EMS Association she planned and coordinated presentations for the NNAEMS annual conference in 4 states over 6 years. Barbara founded FirstCare EMS, LLC after leaving the emergency department and provided consulting services to two start up ambulance services, several fire departments and an urgent care. After accepting a full time position at NextCare Urgent Care, Barbara served in various roles in the company over her twelve year tenure: Director of Patient Resources, Education Director, Safety and Quality Committee Chair and Provider Trainer for NextGen EHR. In 2018, Barbara was involved in the start up of US CareWays, an urgent care located within the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Barbara was also a presenter at the 2019 UCA Convention & Expo. Barbara is currently a UCA Accreditation Surveyor and a surgery nurse for Southwestern Eye Center. Barbara and her husband enjoy spending time with their three grandsons. They look forward to their annual trips to Barbara's home town of New Orleans, savoring the great food and culture while reconnecting with family.
